Matthew Garcia

Matthew Garcia is a Saxophonist, Composer, and Educator Currently residing in New York City. In high school, Matthew participated in All-State Jazz (2x), Carnegie Hall's, NYO Jazz (2x), and was named a National Finalist in Jazz by the Young Arts Foundation.

While enrolled at New York University, Matthew continued to pursue his musical endeavors under the guidance of esteemed instructors such as Dave Pietro, Ron Mclure, Billy Drummond, and Lenny White. During his time at NYU, Matthew was selected for the prestigious JAS Academy Big Band, led by legendary bassist Christian Mcbride. His ensemble was also handpicked by judges of the NYU combo competition to travel to Costa Rica, performing at prestigious venues and teaching at a handful of Schools throughout the country.

Matthew has recently performed as a leader and sideman in iconic venues such as the Village Vanguard, Blue Note, Soapbox Gallery, Provincetown Playhouse, and most recently Carnegie Hall. Since being in NYC Matthew has recorded and/or performed with Sean Jones, Ron Mcclure, Dave Pietro, Melissa Aldana, Jason Moran, Martin Wind, Rich Perry, Marcus Miller (Sax), Steve Johns, Scott Robinson, Helen Sung and Christian McBride.
