Based in New York City, the Matthew Garcia trio celebrates freedom: harmonic, rhythmic, and civil. Influenced by the great chordless bands such as the Sonny Rollins Trio, the Joe Henderson Trio, and the iconic recordings of Ornette Coleman and Don Cherry, the trio aspires to embody the same spirit of freedom that these bands introduced. The trio’s latest track, captured from a live performance in Harlem, showcases their ability to co-create a story given their own individual freedoms that are granted by the trio setting. We have recently performed at Shrine Harlem, the Williamsburg Music Center, and are set to perform a live set at WKCR radio station in the coming weeks. Along with an album full of originals and standards coming in the fall.

As A Matter of Fact, the blues.

In February of 2024, my quintet presented a show addressing the blues in a jazz context. We were lucky enough to receive a $1,600 grant from the Young Arts alumni foundation to support this project. The project gave homage to the great Ben Webster and Harry "Sweets" Edison. We sold 44 tickets and filled the house! Enjoy!
