GMII Trio, featuring Matt Garcia on saxophone, Guillermo Lopez on bass, and Mikkel Vuust on drums, is a New York City-based ensemble dedicated to the art of the chordless trio.

This trio celebrates freedom. Harmonic, Rhythmic, and Civil Freedom. Influenced by the great chordless bands such as the Sonny Rollins Trio, the Joe Henderson Trio, and the iconic recordings of Ornette Coleman and Don Cherry, the trio aspires to embody the same spirit of freedom that these bands introduced. The trio’s latest track, captured from a live performance at Shrine in Harlem, showcases their ability to co-create a story given their own individual freedoms that are granted by the trio setting. We have recently performed at Shrine Harlem, the Williamsburg Music Center, and are set to perform a live set at WKCR radio station in the coming weeks.
